Yesterday a friend showed me a game on his Sony Playstation that perhaps
isn't the best thing since sliced bread, but is most certainly one of the
most refreshing UI ideas I have seen in several years.
The game is called "Eye Toy", and the idea is that you have a small camera
sitting on top of the display (usually, your TV), filming you play. A faded
image of yourself appears on the display, and you interact with the display
by moving around. For example, one game involves you punching (by actually
moving your hands around!) small ninjas, and in another one you have to
wash windows (!) as fast as you can by rubbing them :) This game is not only a
computer game which you can actually get some physical exercise while
playing, it's also a great party game - a person standing up and hitting
invisible ninjas is very funny to look at :)
So, after this long introduction, I was wondering: was this UI and this
sort of game, involving reading movements on a camera and using them to
control what's happening on screen, ever done in Linux (or, if push got to
shove, on another PC platform)? If so, where can I find it?
If not, here's a great project for anyone considering an image-processing
project!
