Where can I find information about the following issues:
1. Using GPLed software on embedded hardware, where the software is on
ROM and cannot be modified by regular users.
2. What happens if the system must not be modifiable by normal users due
to regulatory issues (such as WiFi cards or medical equipment), but the
manufactures wishes to use GPLed software to implement parts of the
system software.
I tried to google for issue 1, but found nothing relevant
(http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT9161119242.html,
http://www.linuxdevices.com/cgi-bin/board/UltraBoard.pl?Action=PrintableTopic&Post=2&Board=licenses&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=).
I expect issue 2 to be discussed together with issue 1.
The GPL FAQ (http://www.fsf.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html) did not answer
those questions.
By the way, according to Groklaw, there are two FSF seminars about the
GPL (http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20040727140948715).
However, I am too geographically- and time-challenged to participate in
those seminars.
