I do not know Joel outside the two lectures I invited him for in the past - so
I think I can give an objective testimonial.
If you work in a medium/large company, call Joel NOW and ask him to come and
lecture. I invited him to speak first to a large forum of developers, and
then to project managers and pointy-headed bosses. Both times the lecture was
entertaining, and passed the idea of what open source is and why the
organization should use that model.
If you work for a company that embraces open source, invite him for a talk so
that your people can understand the general principles and get a fascinating
lesson about its history.
If your company doesn't know what open source is, or if the managers just
returned from Tech-ed thinking that Steve Ballmer is the messiah, let Joel
give them some food for thought on why open source kicks ass.
In short - take him up on his offer, before he gets a hundred of phone calls
and regrets he ever offered to speak :-)
