Hmm... my logrotate can rotate based on size too.
It's version is 3.5.9-8.
This is part of what the man page has to say about this:

size size[M|k]
Log files are rotated when they grow bigger than size
bytes. If size is fol
lowed by M, the size is assumed to be in megabytes. If
k is used, the size
is in kilobytes. So size 100, size 100k, and size 100M are
all valid.

I think this still needs to be started through a cron job.
