I used xpdf, presenting a presentation written with LaTeX and the
prosper presentation package. Running on kernel 2.5.66-mx, debian
unstable, if it matters. Worked beautifully. Another notable mention
is HTML slides, for fast and simple editing and viewing. Both assume
that your slides don't have any animation or other cute tricks[1][2].

[2] prosper *does* support some of those cute tricks.
