Agreed. I was surprised by hearing some people pronounce linux as 'linix', the
way Linus is said to do. Guess I haven't been around too many people who talk
about linux (and haven't heard about it from me first), except on the net. Is
it a common pronunciation? I rather liked it :-)
I thought after hearing some of the speakers about the Hebrew Desktop:
we talk about linux conquering the world and we'd surely want to see the day
MS's monopoly (which is still such in many circles) cease to exist. I wonder
though, how many of us care about all those users switching to a better OS,
for those users' own sakes? For myself, I don't _really_ care what happens to
people I don't personally know. I may wish it to happen in the abstract, but
I probably wouldn't contribute much time & hard work towards that goal.
The real reason I'd like to see the world converted to linux, or at least away
from windows, is because once people use diverse, open systems, I'll be able
to use my own system of choice freely. No more winword docs from the
government and school I fund with my taxes; or at least I'll be able to read
them in openoffice. In other words, I'm in support of Hebrewifying the linux
desktop, because that will allow me to use my English desktop in peace &
quiet :-) (Of course that's not very fair because I'm not personally involved
in the l10n efforts, so my 'support' isn't worth much, but still...)
What do you think?
Oh and about the OO.o discs we got: I understood that RSN they'll finish some
things like the complete l10n, and then they will put the newer version up
for download (with a link at www.openoffice.org.il I suppose). Will we also
get the source code then? What's the status on distributing these discs
before there's a version available for download? I thought I heard someone
say it's best not to distribute them too much...
