They actually *do* call before conferences they think will be
"important" for you (i.e. they may decide you're interested in Linux
conferences and call you up in the future to invite you). But their
calls are friendly and polite, and you can probably ask them to wipe you
from their list next time they call.
And for all the other SPAM-fearing participants, unlike the usual "click
here to unsubscribe" schemes, p&c will actually unsubscribe you from
their mailing list if you ask them to.
