Hello all
I am interested in determining the usage of different MTA (=Mail Transport Agent, such as Postfix or Exchange) in the world. I have googled for a while but I can't find a satisfactory answer.
Basically I want the popularity of the MTA with respect to the number of emails handled, not the number of installations, to a simple sweep of IPs and collection of "220" greetings won't do.
What I thought of is trying to find a friendly ISP that will let me sniff connections going out to port 25 for a while or do some processing on their incoming mail server, under the (verifiable) condition that I will only extract the "Received:" lines from every email message and will never ever correlate them with any other piece of data, so if you have the necessary connections it will help too.
Or maybe you have a better way?
TIA
