How is that ridiculos? There is no way to ensure proper conversation
from OOo (or KOffice, AbiWord etc) to MS-Word without vieweing the
document in MS-Word, which means purchasing (and using) Windows+Word (or
Mac+Word if everything's in English). Both cost money (and not a small
amount of money) and are arguably inferior to other solutions in many
aspects. If you insist on a format easily-readable by MS-Word you can
use RTF which has a rather (if not fully) open specification.
